We're new to RomanCart, and may have got this wrong, but how do we deal with some products which have to have VAT added (software) and some which don't (books)?

There doesn't seem a way of defining the VAT rate for each product.

There is a way of doing it. I think you will find it in the product manager, but can't be certain as I don't use VAT yet. No doubt someone will be along shortly who does and can advise.

Many thanks, Raineshoe

The only workaround I can see at the moment, if we can't have these two types of product (tax-wise), is to have one cart for VAT-able items, and another for non-VAT-able items.

Apart from the extra expense for us, I'm not sure what our PSP would make of that.

I'm sure I'm just not seeing the way to do it.

Hi,
You can either set the tax on each product in the product manager using the tax parameter, or use advalced tax where you set the tax value for each country/region.

Thanks, Support.

It's still not working for us, based in the UK, with some products we have to sell with 17.5% VAT and some are zero-rated.

We've set product A with a tax rate of 17.5%

We've set product B with a tax rate of 0.

In Set Tax Options we've set:

Prices include tax: No
Show Total Tax: Yes

1) With Default Tax Rate: 0 then no VAT appears on the invoice.

2) With Default Tax Rate: 17.5% then VAT appears on both items A and B, incorrectly.

In addition, both items A and B appear in the repeat invoice, even though I've only entered one.

OK, will do some screen shots. I don't think they can be posted on the Forum, so will send by email.

What I'm expecting to see is VAT on the cart applied according to the VAT rate allocated to the products.

Hi,
using the tax parameter on the product sets the tax rate on each product (unless you are using the advanced tax feature in which case you need to set the tax band.
Many Thanks

So if we set the tax rate on each unique product, we shouldn't use the advanced tax feature?

Hi,
If you are using the advanced tax feature then set the taxband on the product not the tax.

I have set the tax on the 2 products in our test cart.

Questions:

1) How do I set tax options?

2) How do I set Advanced Tax? On or off?

If on, then I assume that software (attracts 17.5% VAT in UK) is tax band A and books (zero VAT) are tax band B?

On product screen I should set the tax appropriately and also go to Options and select Tax Band A or Tax Band B?

If I need to set Tax Band B to zero (for books) for every country, do I have to go through the whole lot and change 17.5% to 0? There has to be a better way.

Hi,
Set tax options at 'configure cart'/'set tax options'

Advanced tax lets you set tax by country/region/state. Switch it on if you want to do this.

If you are using advanced tax then set the tax rates for each region/tax band you require on the advanced tax screen. Then make sure your products are in the correct band.

If your tax rates are the same for each region then you shouldn't be using advanced tax.

Also - don't forget to select the countries you would deliver to at 'configure cart'/'configure countries# before you do this.

Many Thanks
