Hi,
When you use PayPal Express checkout, the PayPal express checkout pages now show the details of what the customer is purchasing.
If you are using PayPal standard, you should seriously consider switching to PayPal express checkout. Most other carts don't actually support PayPal standard any more as Express Checkout is so much better.
This is essentially because with Express Checkout the customer logs onto PayPal and the cart gets their details from there, rather than them having to enter it onto RomanCart.
Many Thanks Support

Hi James,
I've been using PayPal Express checkout for about 5 years and I've not noticed any changes today, payments are appearing on my PayPal account as usual, is this problem only affecting Annie?

URGENT ! We have been using paypal express for several years, not many problems until today, 2 orders generated no money in our paypal account, one of these orders is for urgent despatch so can someone confirm where this money is please and when we are likely to receive it so we can despatch as requested by our customer. The order reference numbers concerned are RC15065517 & RC15065600. An urgent response would be appreciated. Jayne

Hi Nick,
Thanks for the info. This has now been fixed and has affected an incredibly small amount of merchants so you may not have been affected.
Anyone who has been affected will see a refunded message in the sales manager next to the pay status indicating there has been an issue and to contact us if they have any concerns. The customers will be refunded and they will see this in their paypal account shortly, they should of already received a message telling them their order has been refunded. However this does mean any merchant who had this issue will need to contact the customers affected and ask them to re-order.
Sorry for the obvious inconvenience to any merchant who experienced this issue and if anyone has any concerns then feel free to contact us.
Thanks
James

It would have been better had you transferred the funds to the affected merchant than refunding the buyer.
One of our customers that was affected paid for next day delivery but now has to pay again. He hasn't answered our e-mails and will be oblivious to the fact there was a problem.

Hi,
The issue from earlier today has now been resolved and the new integration to Express checkout has been applied. The items the customer are purchasing are now visible on the payment pages. There are a number of different types of screen the customer may be presented with on PayPal. The older pages show the items on the left, whilst the newer pages show a drop cart style basket at the top right. Which one your customers see depends on whether PayPal has selected your account to use the new pages. (We do not have control over this).
Please let us know if you get any further problems with this - we will sort them out immediately.
Many Thanks Support

I still use paypal standard and don't want to change as I've noticed every time there is a problem with checkout its always with the fancy paypal options. In the 7 years plus that I've used paypal standard I've never had one issue, whereas people seem to be forever having problems and issues with the more advanced paypal options. So sorry, won't be swapping over to what is "touted" as better as what I have works fine.

Hello Supoort
I have just had a customer try to place an order and to pay by PayPal Express and got this message:
Error: The totals of the cart item amounts do not match order amounts. Merchant: Please ensure your PayPal API settings are configured in accordance with the RomanCart instructions.
I have tried it myself making a duplicate order and it works OK.

Hi,
If you have not - Please can you make sure that you have tried *exactly* what the customer did. The same tax region, the same item, the same quantity and the same shipping methods, and also any discounts.
If you do manage to reproduce the issue please let us know.
Many Thanks Support

Hi, Please note that PayPal Express checkout cannot handle zero value line items.
For this reason if an order has one or more zero value line items, the cart will not send the line item details for the entire order.
(If we did the customer would not see the free item on the PayPal basket which would cause confusion).
Many Thanks Support

Will someone help me please?
Should we be seriously considering PayPal Express Checkout or seriously considering PayPal Pro as currently plastered all over the log in pages?
Are RC on some sort of brilliant bung from PayPal because in the space of a couple of weeks you seem to have changed your tune about which version of PayPoo we should be using?
Can someone spell out the advantages (apart from the £250 bribe which I won't get as an existing customer) for me. I'm a bit thick.

Support, I would like to add to the above, Why are Roman Cart plugging Paypal and taking the time to promote/develop new Roman Cart pages for this when there are more important things that they could be doing with their time ie. better looking/working cart pages inc. mobile phone version, vouchers that work for the total order costs inc. of postage. In other words things that Roman Cart Customers want and have asked for via this forum. Red

Support The problem i'm having with Paypal Express showing product descriptions is that all my product are tickets, and their ItemNames include some formatting instructions such as <big> or <strong>. This is so that when RC produces a printable E-ticket, the layout of the ticket is appropriately formatted. But now these descriptions appear when paying on Paypal Express and look a bit odd, if not dodgy. Is there any way i can turn the descriptions off?

Hi, Please put the markup for the itemname etc. Into the ticket template, not into the actual itemname, which will resolve this issue.

Thanks support but i'm using a variety of different markups within the text contained in the Itemname field as well as needing line breaks, hence the need to put markups within the field itself. I was just wondering whether, say, it might be possible to pass the text in the Description field to paypal express, rather than the Itemname text - or at least to have that option?

...Or, support, an option to provide an override... like in the setup for Paypal standard, where you can enter a generic description of all the goods you sell.

...Or support, and here's my final suggestion but might be the easiest to implement, make it possible to include a <description> field within the ticket template, which shows data from the product description as opposed to the Itemname.

Hi Support,
I've noticed that the product description has not been appearing on the PayPal 'Notification of Payment Received' email for PayPal Express transaction on some orders (just the prices show) but the product description is included on some orders, can you please investigate?
