Hi,
We have made several enhancements to our eBay integration.
1. It now remembers the last category you selected to make it easier if you are listing lots of items to the same category.
2. You can now list product variations using Product Groups. If you have an item in small/medium/large red/green/blue then you can use this to have the items listed as one item with drop downs to select the variations.
3. You can now set it so that all your ebay orders appear in the RomanCart sales manager. This includes ebay orders which were not listed using RomanCart, for example if you have an ebay store.

Excellent.
On the 'configure' link there are drop downs of various email templates.
I've looked on the screencasts and in the drop down menus within sales manager but can't see where I can configure them. I need to tweak the confirmation email specifically for ebay.
Can you point me in the right direction please?
Many thanks, Richard.

Hi,
see 'configure > document templates > order emails'. You can setup your own template here.
Then go to 'manage > marketpalces > ebay' and click on configure. Here you can choose aht email is sent to the customer.
Thanks

Out of interest, can I use one of the many configurable order emails as my standard email for the cart?
Sorry to be a nuisance, but I can't find where to override the generic 'order complete' email.

Thank you for the above. I've set it up now.
Another question or two.
If I mark the ebay item as shipped in RC, is ebay's selling manager supposed to update?
If not, and I mark the item as shipped within ebay, will this update the RC sales manager?
I also noted that the VAT split was not imported into RC.
Note that these points apply to my listing which existed already within ebay, not one which I created via RomanCart - hence no entry in product manager for the items sold.
Regards,
Richard.

Hi, There is no communication from RomanCart to ebay apart from listing items. Therefore changing the status on RomanCart will not affect status' on eBay.
Regarding the VAT, please can you email us exact details so we can take a look.

Hi Support,
It does seem to be acting up at the moment.
I have one ebay transaction recorded in ebay sales manager and one paypal transaction.
Paypal payment was made at 14.04.18 today. It registered as an ebay sale in my cart at 14.04.21, order number RC17179841 ebay confirmation email arrived in my inbox at 14.05
I have a further entry for the same sale at 14.13.01, order number RC17179895
At 14.30, I marked the item as dispatched within ebay sales manager. Within a few seconds of my doing that, I have another entry for the same sale at 14.30.20, order number RC17180015.
At 14.56.17 I have a fourth entry for the same sale, order number RC17180182. There was no intervention from me, I had left to do the school run.
The VAT content of the above is showing as zero. My VAT registration number is lodged with ebay and the listing 331439285868 is showing that I am VAT registered. When I generate an invoice for this transaction within ebay, it extracts the VAT correctly.
My store ID is 26525. I'll email my support tag now.
Regards,
Richard.

Can we select our Ebay postage policies.
Everytime we list an item and select the postage from the drop down we then have to go and edit it in Ebay as it defaults to posting within 3 working days, when we want to show we post same working day.

Hi, rscass - We need to address each of these issues... The duplicate issued should now be resolved, please can you confirm this with your next order. Then we will look into the tax issue.
rich-erich - There's probably a load of extra things which could be added. If you could make a list of anything extra you think it needs - we can take a look at it all in one go.

Hi Support -
Okay, I'll leave it live.
From an accounting point of view, having the sales records in one place is much better than having to remember to download ebay sales.

Richard.

Support Why do you continue to release new features or enhancements without proper testing that they work properly? I cannot remember anything that you have added working as it should and most never ever get sorted even when we as customers tell you the problems. You seem to think it is your customers place to test and work out the problems for you, you must know to some extent that there are problems prior to going live with them? I am sure you will soon be fed up with this ebay feature and give up on it and go onto something else without sorting the problems. Red

I do agree with Red that there seem to be a lot of things released these days that don't fully work and are never fully fixed. Must admit a lot of new features I have never attempted because I just feel like they are going to be hassle with all the problems.

Hi,
When we release new functionality especially something as complex as the recent enhancements to eBay there is always a chance that there might be some teething problems. It is unfortunately simply not possible to test all the different permutations of the ebay orders.
However i'm not sure what you mean by 'lot of things released these days that don't fully work and are never fully fixed'
Please can you list what you are actually referring to - as if there's something not working - we need to know about it.
Many Thanks Support

Support everything you release has problems cart templates, ebay use, widgets so on and so on, I have lost track of what does not work properly when released. We as customers have to find a way of adapting the use of these functions if we want to use them. We tried the ebay when first released and it is more trouble than it is worth as you have to list via roman cart and then go on to your ebay account and edit terms, postage etc. so you may as well of listed on ebay in the first place, not worth using. Cart templates almost all had problems with, I did go through them all when you released and sent you a long list of problems I found with them, nothing done to correct so I kept at the basic cart like others have done as again not worth the problems. Widgets - the sash covered the product code/name on one of them when release this could have been seen by you if you tried it.
You need to remember we are CUSTOMERS not testers, it is up to you to make sure that features and additions work prior to release, we pay you for these features as part of our packages purchased. If you were selling us a different product and it did not work properly we would take it back to you and ask for our money back. You are selling us products that do not work properly and that needs to be corrected. I like Others have had enough, working on setting up a Blue Park cart which does work as it should and has the features we need. Red Red

Hi Red,
Unfortunately that's the nature of software development. Many companies have to release fixes for software after releasing new features, whether it's us or Microsoft (e.g. windows 8.1 hurriedly released after windows 8.0).
Ultimately though i'm really sorry you are not happy with RomanCart. The features you list above are all new features added in the last few years at the request of our merchants.
However, now that you've decided to move elsewhere - we wish you every success with your new ecommerce provider.

Just to let you know that I can't feed back re. the duplicated sales records because I haven't sold anything else on ebay since you made the changes!

Hi Rscass,
Obviously not a problem! You should see the next order on the sales manager only once as you would expect.
Please let us know then we will take a look at the tax part.

I gave up trying the widgets as couldn't find any instructions to use them. Asked several times on the forum and never got a link to any instructions. The bit I tried I couldn't get to work properly, and due to lack of response on the forum re instructions and a few other questions gave up. I also had an issue some time ago, I can't remember all the ins and outs of it, but due to lack of help from RC and being told it was a problem with my coding I went on a coding forum and posted the whole story to which a programmer on there found it wasn't anything to do with my coding it was RC's coding that was at fault. Again gave up. The widgets finally did it for me and I'm too moving when my cart runs out.

Hi Rainshoe,
That's a shame. I'm not sure of the actual case, but perhaps you were wanting to do something which the widgets aren't able to do or something.
Either way, if you are leaving, as with Red - we wish you every success with your future ecommerce plans.
Having said that with both yourself and Red - is there anything we can do to make you stay?!

Too little too late I'm afraid from RC. I posted last June saying I was moving as I had got fed up with things not running as smoothly as they might with various things and non responses on the forum to questions you don't want to answer and the response from RC is below, and it appears you were happy for me to leave then despite being a customer since approximately 2006/2007. Now you are asking if there is anything you can do to make me stay!!! True to form, as I said too little too late. When my cart runs out I'll be gone ;-)
"Firstly, it's a real shame that you have decided to leave RomanCart, however you have used it for many years and it seems that you feel it is time to try something else. We really appreciate your support over the years and your valuable contributions to the forums.
The most important thing though is - keep a copy of your existing site! It is not unusual for an established store moving to a completely different system to suffer a big drop in sales (whatever system they were/are using). If this happens (which we hope it doesn't!) then after a couple of tense weeks you will probably want to switch it back as before. We have had this many times particularly with merchants who have been with us a long time who decide to try something else. Usually incremental changes to your site are a lot safer.
Either way - we wish you every success for the future!"

Morning Support -
A miracle happened overnight - I sold something on ebay.
Order ref RC17192207 - I can confirm that it appears just once in sales manager.
I've marked the order as shipped within ebay and unlike the last one, it hasn't been duplicated in RC.
Regards,
Richard.

Okay.
I have all of my VAT registration details logged with ebay.
The default position on all of my ebay sales is that VAT is included at 20% - regardless of which country I'm delivering to (I have to reset the rate to zero manually for non-EU). ebay don't do tax, but that's a side issue.
When I print off an invoice via ebay, there is an option to print a VAT receipt. This is what I automatically reach for - it isn't the first choice on the list.
So, the totals for products and shipping are correct in RC sales manager, but the VAT element is not showing at all.
Regards,
Richard.

Hi again Support
I'm seeing that the contacts created by ebay sales are automatically opted in to accepting marketing emails.
Although ebay always automatically opts people in to stuff (unprofessional IMHO), I really think that the default position should be off.
Best wishes,
Richard.

Hi Richard,
Do you know if the transaction on eBay gives the customer an opportunity to opt out?

Hi,
You can subscribe to a seller's shop and newsletter etc. You need to opt in to those.
Marketing emails from ebay/paypal are sent out. These are opted in to by default, but they are of a very general nature rather than promotions from an individual customer.
Best wishes,
Richard.

Hi,
The law in the UK allows 'soft opt-in' which means that they need to be offered a way to opt out when they pay.
Do you know how eBay meets this requirement?

Everything on ebay is done at an account level.
ebay/paypal don't seem to pay much attention to the law.
You might need to do a test purchase to find out.
If you buy something off me I'll refund you immediately.

Hi Support -
A couple of issues today.
Order ref RC17227131 is to Belgium - shipping rate is correct, however the shipping method shows as second class instead of Airmail.
The cart is correctly identifying 1st/2nd class for UK though - which is an improvement over ebay's own invoices/delivery notes.
Secondly, order ref RC17233950 showed as incomplete with no payment method - however, it was actually paid for by paypal.
Both were originally listed directly on ebay UK.
Regards,
Richard.
