Hi all!
Royal Mail's web servers went down on Friday evening and I have a steadily growing backlog of un-processed RC orders. How are other RC / SmartStamp users coping with this service outage which has so far lasted for 48 hours? Regards Nick G. |

Hi, Nick,
We're having the same problem too. I just phoned them and they gave me the usual answer that they're experiencing some technical problems since upgrading the website on Friday, and that they expect it to be fixed today. Fingers crossed! |

Graham,
I received notification from Royal Mail on 14th Oct to say that they would be upgrading their website at the end of October, no mention of a November outage!
The Royal Mail servers came now back on line and I've logged into my SmartStamp account to find that my customer Ref number has been changed and that all my pre-payment credit has gone. last week I had approx £750 pre-payment credit, today your system is showing zero pre-payment balance and I can't print any postage Happy Days! You can monitor the ongoing - non-information feed - on their twitter account. Everytime RM "improve" Smartstamp it falls over for quite awhile. The last time I looked their servers are in Arizona! Most of the RM website is offline as well are links to the wrong pages - help page is down for example.

Word on the street is that there has been a major coding issue as a result of the recent RM website upgrade. I was advised to forget Smartstamp for quite some time and head for the queue at the local post office. It is pathetic with the day-long RM promised on twitter "hoping to resolve the issues with our suppliers to get the website up and running asap etc etc "

Hi All!
Silly me - I have all my regular customers' addresses in my Address Book on the Royal Mail online postage site and can't access them! Technology is wonderful isn't it!! It's about time we had a viable alternative to Royal Mail, who don't deserve the business. |

It's been a real pain today, and as Jackslad said, it looks to continue for a while.
Side-tracking slightly, I think its a bit of a cheek anyway for Smartstamp to charge us an annual fee for the privilege of using their service; look at all the time we save them, along with using our own labels, ink etc. If anything, we should be able to enjoy the discounts available for customers who use franking machines; perhaps all of us who are members of the FSB should put this to our peers so they can lobby for us. |

I've not been able to use it, but just gone back to going to the PO and getting them to stamp all our parcels.

Smartstamp is back - but it seems they have re-designed it so that you should log-on to your RM account first - then Smartstamp. The top-up routine is now more long-winded! Progress so they say!
