I'm considering changing the way images are displayed on my web site. Currently I have a small picture with a "click here to enlarge" link which opens a new window. However, I am thinking of going over to a system of still having the small picture displayed, but when you roll over it it opens a "sticky box". I can't make up my mind which is better for the web shop so thought I'd enlist the advice of other experienced web shop owners for their opinions.
http://www.facepaintsdirect.co.uk/test2.htm - for example of what I propose. Its a test page at the moment and works for the second pic down Mehron Synwax and fourth pic down Mehron Modelling Putty. http://www.facepaintsdirect.co.uk/waxes.htm - this is the current system. I want to make things as easy as possible for users more than anything. |

Hi Jane,
Like you I also currently use a small picture with a "click here to enlarge" link but your "sticky box" method seems very user friendly. I might introduce this method to my site, can you share the code with me? Regards Nick G. |

I got it off Dynamic Drive they have lots and lots of codes that are free to use so long as you keep the bits they say in, which only appears in the source not on your site. (Why re-invent the wheel as they say). I usually take the codes and then tweek where I can to suit my requirements as I'm not much good at javascript from scratch, but can usually make someone elses work for me. I changed the colour on the static box to blue from red which suited my site better. Glad you like the idea as I'm leaning towards it rather a lot. Trouble is its not always what you yourself likes. Its what the public like and what encourages them to buy from your site. Reason why I posted here to get other opinions.
This is the link to the page with the original code - http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex5/stickytooltip.htm I usually find it best to copy into a blank page/test page and then when you've cracked it and know how it all works etc, then put it in the other pages. Have a play its not too difficult. Not trying to teach you to suck eggs either by the way Edited by raineshoe - 01 March 2010 at 9:41pm |

PS - I'm kind of the opinion that the public like to click as little buttons as possible to achieve what they want and it needs to be handed to them on a plate where possible.
