Support - Re Offers Function, we do not feel this is set up correctly. The Offers function could do with a tick box or something that allows the customer the choice of adding the offer to their basket. As it is at the moment the Offer is just added to the customers basket without them knowing. An offer in our view is something that the customer should be able to choose to accept or decline not just be added to their purchase selections and expect them to pay for without them having selected it in the first place.

Red,
I know I've already answered you in another category, I'm just posting here for the benefit of other members. This can already be done by using the 'accessories' code, For Example: <form action=http://www.romancart.com/cart.asp method=post> <input type=hidden name=itemname value='Dog Lead'> <input type=hidden name=dependentmaster value=yes> <input type=hidden name=price value=9.99> <input type=hidden name=storeid value=10000> <input type=hidden name=quantity value=1> Dog Lead £9.99<br><br> <input type=hidden name=X1itemname value='Collar (Half Price)'> <input type=hidden name=X1price value=2.50> <input type=hidden name=X1storeid value=10000> <input type=hidden name=X1quantity value=1> Special Offer!<br> Add the collar for half normal price! (£2.50)<input type=checkbox name=X1include><br><br> <input type=submit value='Add to Basket'> </form> Edited by Amber - 21 June 2011 at 6:52pm |

I agree, it looks like we are forcing the customer to take the offer. It would be better organised if it could be made an optional add to basket when you are purchasing the item.
Like what Graham as done, but would be great if it could be done with least hassle. |

Hi Graham.
My point to Support re the Offers Function is that it should not just put an extra item directly onto the customers basket without them first selecting to do so, this looks like they are being forced into buying an extra product that they did not select and which they may not want (even if it is at a reduced price) and I am sure would make a lot of customers just abandon the cart. The Offers function is one of the upgrade selling points for the top level of cart so should in my view be usable. The reason for wanting to use the function is that you can set up a time span for the offer, the set up is quick and you can link product codes to each other for the offers without having to do a lot of work on codes. It also has an edit and delete button for the offer so would be much quicker to use and a lot less fuss if it was not for the fact that it does not give the customer the choice first. Red |

Hi Red,
I can see your point; you'd like to see it incorporated within the 'offers' facility, whereas I was offering a workaround. We'll have to see if Support will implement this, but in the meantime the code above should tide you over, it does what you want it to do in essence. |

Hi,
If you simply want to offer the customer a reduced price product for example when they purchase another product then you should use up-sell/cross-sell for this. - Although you cannot make it time limited, you would need to remove the up-sell. With offers the cart has to add it automatically otherwise the customer would have to go back to your website to get the offer product. Many Thanks Support |

Hi Support
Can you not set it up to show on the basket but with a tick box as you do for up-sell/ cross-sell items that then allows the customer to choose to add the offer. If I have to add it via a cross-sell then I have to make offer priced lead codes for all my existing leads and then add an cross-sell to every collar in order to do this. The Offer feature would do it far quicker and as I said has the advantage of having the time frame you can set up for the time you wish the offer to run or edit the offer if you wish at any time. Surely you must agree that just adding an offer directly to the customers cart without them first selecting to do so is not the correct way to do it - It is like pressure selling. Red |

Support, the Offer function is a good one - easy to use, quick to set up and something we would very much like to use on our site, it is just the way it adds the offer directly to the customers cart page that we have a problem with, can you not just make a slight adjustment to how it works which would allow the customer the choice?

Dear Support
I have tried the work around via code that Graham provided above but the problem with that is that the product you add to the existing product as a special offer is added to the basket with the first products picture against it which is no good. I would very much like to ust the Offers function that I have paid extra for by upgrading to the top level cart but cannot do so as I do not see how adding a product into a customers cart that adds to their basket total costs can be a legal function - the customer needs to be able to make the choice to accept or not accept the Offe. All it needs is a tick box against the offered item, which should not be that much of a problem for you to add to this function. (I have just contacted trading standards to find out the legal situation regarding adding a product directly into a customers basket that they do not know about and which adds to their basket total and will let you know their opinion once we receive it). Hi Red,
Cross Sell/Up Sell does exactly what you looking for, offers them an extra item and gives them the choice of whether they want it or not by using a tick box. https://admin.romancart.com/v111/info/screencast.asp?topic=csandus Thanks James |
