Hi,

We are now looking for merchants who would like to test the new RomanCart Web Control Panel.

Please note that this is Beta testing - so although we have tested it ourselves merchants may identify other problems which we will address.

If you would like to be involved with this and you have an upgraded cart, please email us your storeid and last 3 letters of your Password (for security) and we will provide further instructions of how you can participate.

Many Thanks

I for one am seriously looking forward to the opportunity of testing what you all have been working hard on.
I recon the support mail box may well be full to overflowing this morning

Thanks

Hi,
Please note that the last 3 characters from the password needs to be the RomanCart generated password, not passwords from users you have added.
Many Thanks

I hope I am not alone in using my own username/password that are unique to me and that only I can remember. Unfortunately, I do not remember the generated password or even the username/email that I used originally. How can I take part if I do not remember my generated password from last year or the year before?

HI,
Your username is the email address at 'configure cart'/'change or view your details'
Use this on the 'lost password' page to have the password emailed to you.

Hi Support,

Just back from holidays and a couple of questions before signing up.

1) Is the testing done on a test version of the system or does it replace our existing live set up?

2) Assuming it's on the live data; what's the escape route back to our existing live set up if a major problem is found? Would this escape route keep track of orders received and changes made during the testing period?

Does that count as 3 questions ?

H,
You can still access the old control panel when testing the new one.
The data is your live data.

However, unless there is a major problem we would not advise using the old control panel once you start using the new control panel. For example if you create a postcode based shipping method in the new control panel, i'm not totally sure what would happen if you tried to access/edit it in the old control panel which does not have this functionality.

Many thanks

I have another question now too... is the data transferred over from the old panel to the new one as I don't fancy entering 500+ items, shipping etc again.

Hi,
You will be accessing live data through the new control panel.

So what if one is beta testing the new control pattern but others are only processing orders on the old one as users rather than administrators with the old control panel?

Date Posted: 05 April 2010 at 6:48pm
Hi,
The new control panel accesses exactly the same data as the old control panel.
If you decide to test the new control panel then you should have everyone that uses your control panel use the new control panel instead, and not go back to the old control panel unless you have a specific reason for doing so.
Once we have completed testing on the new control panel then all merchants will be switched to the new control panel.
Many Thanks

Brilliant for me. It has cut down listing new products by half with the copy function in the product manager.

Also, I have had only one hiccup in the new layout (kiss of death now), but had a few questions as some things work very slightly differently or are in a different place.

Overall I think its excellent (although you will never please everyone) and would say take the plunge.

There are still a number of things to find out but overall I'm very pleased.

Sadly we have a total show stopper of a problem. The new system does not allow the use of the - symbol in the item codes, our item codes are the same as our SKU numbers (logically) & 90% of them have a - in the number. The new control panel, good as it looks, is unusable for us - unless we want to completely renumber almost 1,000 products as well as all the changes that would be required to our stock control / ordering / invoicing systems, also a re-write of the web site itself....

Have to say support have been pretty prompt at ironing out any problems, or appear to be. I believe some people have had problems that involve a more in depth quest for a solution which could not have been foreseen. But it appears on the face of it that they are trying to find solutions where possible.

Hi support

I hope the issue regarding the product codes is resolved. We also have 3 carts with "-" in our product codes, involving a total of over 2000 products and it will be a total show-stopper for us.

Many thanks

Some sort of update regarding the inability to use a - in the item code would be appreciated. I was hoping to be able to give the control panel a good test out, but this is imposible at the moment as much of what I want to do it simply doesn't let me.
This issue shouldn't have come as a surprise, as our item codes are there to be seen (by Romancart) & I think that there are many people effected in the same way that we are.
At the moment we are in the latter stages of developing a new web site, (totally different domain) & if there is no guarantee forthcoming that this issue will be resolved & soon, then we will have no option but to use a different shopping cart.
Hopefully we will get some information soon, as no news will have to be treated the same way as bad news.

Hi Iain,

If you read previous thread in this announcement forum, from Support on the 23rd, it says that the hyphen problem has been addressed. Even if you don't start using it yet, you could also sign up for the new control panel and follow the posts in 'new control panel forum'.

It's worth registering to receive all posts from the announcements forum.

Hope this helps,

Thanks Dave,
I am already signed up to receive these posts & didn't get anything - I would have though that some note would have been added to this thread as it specifically related to this issue. I have also been in contact some time ago with Oliver at Romancart support who promised to advise on any developments & as I have heard nothing I assumed that it meant that there were no further developments. Anyway, I will have a look at the control panel again later, fingers crossed.

If you didn't receive an e-mail maybe it went into you spam. Perhaps sign up again just in case there has been a blip somewhere.

Iain,

Might be worth checking your spam filters etc. Occasionally, mine decided to trap Romancart posts

No issue on the spam front. All messages are received & filtered here by our system. Certain domains are white listed, one of which is romancart.com also any e-mail address we send / reply to is added to the white list. Unless there was some issue at the ISP end, we should have received everything sent.
Anyway, all being well the "-" issue is sorted & that is what counts - I can now try the new control panel out properly

I also have been waiting for notification of this but find that my subscripton to this formum has "gone" - I haven't even logged into the forum for a long time so didn't change the settings. There are likely to be others expecting this notification and basically given up as the last E-Mail said that the new panel will be available in the next few days (and then nothing since). I only revisited the forum to report the excessive frequency of the processor timeout error (which I see is already in hand) and surprised to see Announcement posts which have not been notified and no subscriptions.

The opportunity for Beta testing I would have thought would be useful for all RC users, even those that haven't signed up to the Announcements forum as they wouldn't even know it is going on.

Support,

Do you have an end of Beta testing date as I'm waiting for any bugs to be ironed out before I launch my website into unknown teritory!

Can I have a login password for the Beta testing forum so that I can see whats been happening?

Actually its not that bad. I think any of the worst stuff has been ironed out. I've found it okay so far and support have usually apart from a couple of blips sorted things quickly. Generally overall very good and I'd take the plunge if I were you. Incidentally, you can always revert back to the old cart if stuff gets too much for you although I think support would prefer it if you didn't.

I agree with Rainshoe. Apart from my concerns about the new courier booking service, which I don't think is available in the old control panel, I don't think there is now anything where I don't prefer the new control panel, which also has loads of extra functionality.

There may well be more issues when we have all checked around the new functionality but in any case if you only use what you use in the old panel it won't matter. On the other hand I suspect you will love finding out about some of the good new bits

Go ahead and go for it.

Hi,
We sent through our details to be added to the beta testing (we are particularly interested in integration with UPS) but have had no response - does it take a while to be added?

When will the beta version become available permanently? Is there a way we can start learning and experiencing with it without affecting our current cart?

Posted By: raineshoe
Date Posted: 17 June 2010 at 6:06pm
Have to say you will find it better than your current cart. Just switch. You can go back to your old cart if you wish, but I'm sure you won't want to. I've been using it for ages now and haven't had the need to go back at all to the old cart. I think all major glitches have been ironed out and support for the most part have been very pro active in correcting any problems that we say have arisen and sometimes its just down to us users been plain old "stupid" - LOL.

Go for it, definitely worthwhile and that's from me whose one of the biggest sceptics when it comes to stuff like this living with a computer programmer, whose first warning was wait until its underway a bit, there's bound to be bugs. But actually its been fairly bug free and excellent.

Oh indeed yes! Almost all the issues have been concerning facilities not even avaiable on the old cart.

I agree with Raineshoe. Go for it.

If Support do reply, they should say that you can easily switch to the BETA control panel. But there are some functions that are not compatible with the current control panel. When you switch to BETA, you can get the same tasks done quicker. But you shouldn't use LIVE anymore, as the results aren't predictable. Hopefully Support can add further comments.

Hi,
This is correct. For example if you set up a postcode based shipping method and then try and open it in the existing control panel (which does not have this feature) there will likely be problems.

Support - Sorry to bother you again about dates, but do you have any idea when the new panel will go live?   I don't want to go on holiday and discover that it all changes when I'm not there....!

Can you give an indication of current timescales and also how much notice we will get before the big 'switchover'

Thanks

My advice is still to go for the new Beta now. If you haven't you can't see it so it's bound to seem like it might be a very different animal.

Actually, for virtually all the exisiting features it's the same.

Go on, you know you want to!

I'll second it. Go for it. Its much better than the old panel.
