PLEASE make a discount or offer that applies to the TOTAL, not the subtotal, so we can sell gift vouchers before XMAS! I can't sell vouchers because they still require a payment for shipping- which is lame. If someone gives a $50 gift voucher, the recipiant shouldn't have to pay shipping on a $30 item. It should come off their voucher. PLEASE! I BEG YOU!

I'm not aware of any large online stores operating like this.
If you can show us where you have seen promotional codes operating in this way then we would be happy to take a look.
It gets complicated regarding tax.

every store on planet earth I have EVER seen operates like this. A gift card also works toward the shipping.
Even other merchants that sell on amazon and accept amazon gift cards will use the gift card balance against the shipping.

if there is anything you can do when tax isn't involved- in the U.S we don't charge tax on shipping, it would be greatly appreciated.

Hi goodgoth,
In relation to the tax on shipping, you should make sure you have shipping methods that can only be used in the US. Then in the shipping method setup you can choose the tax rate, set the tax to 0%.

Online stores set up through Volusion let you apply the gift card balance to the shipping.
