Subject: Smartphone RC cart system needed urgently

I realise that RC has plans to bring forward the ability to recast its system to be properly compatible with smartphones - but this needs addressing urgently. We have nearly completed a mobile version of our site and the link-back to RC's pages is frankly awful. When is RC going to address this very real and growing necessity to have a smartphone compatible shopping cart?????

Our new mobile site is ready to go and works fine with PayPal as they have implemented an automatic mobile version. I have put on hold going live as I am hoping that the promised RC mobile cart will be ready by the end of this month.

Hi,
FYI We are actually contractually obligated to get the mobile version ready by the end of next week.
Thanks

Good to hear - not sure about the "contractually" bit! For those interested in a stress-free option to turn your website into a mobile version which automatically changes the mobile content as you change your PC site checkout:- Wompmobile http://wompmobile.com/WhyMobile.aspx - http://wompmobile.com/WhyMobile.aspx

Hi,
You can switch it on at 'tools'/'customize'
A couple of things to be aware of.

You have to specify payment methods separately for the mobile cart. By default none will be enabled so make sure you select one or more.

PayPal Express checkout is added by default (not active though) when you switch on the mobile cart. Express Checkout provides a great mobile experience. You can configure or remove it on the 'configure'/'payment methods' screen.

The customization features are not released yet, so for now there is just one mobile template. However we will be working on this this coming week and the ability to create your own cart will follow asap, so please let us know if you have any feedback.

Many Thanks

You say there is just one mobile template at the moment - where do we see this prior to switching on?

Tried switching it all on to take a look by adding a product from our own website but found a problem
we have our settings for - Allow customers to enter EURO VAT number to avoid paying VAT not switched on but the mobile version shows the box.

Hello Support
Two things.

1. When I try a transaction on the iPhone, the "apply" button after the promotion box does not appear. It has a missing icon image instead. It is also on the next line.

2. For simplicity I want to only offer Express Checkout for mobile orders. I have enabled this, but even though the Express Checkout Button shows at the bottom of the screen, the normal checkout button still appears. This means if the customer clicks this button they go through the whole RC order form, negating the simplicity of the Express Checkout. Can we have it that this button does not show if only Express Checkout is selected.

Can I suggest you change the text "Change the region" to something like Change to your Country or Change the Country. Please bear in mind customers needing to do this will not have English as their first language.

One tiny though - the order succeed page and order fail pages are set up to be seen as PC pages - I have set-up smartphone pages for these tasks - but how can you force these pages to show on a smartphone? In other words has RC thought about this and implemented a solution???

Hi,
If you have set up a smartphone version of your website then wouldn't you use the same mechanism you are using to detect the smartphone in the first place to display the correct order complete page to your customer?
Many Thanks

Yes the smartphone order success page now reads ok etc. Another niggle on my Iphone is that it "saves" my email address. When you enter it in the relevant box with a few characters it "remembers" the entire address. Unfortunately your system is adding a blank space at the end of the remembered address so the confirmation email doesn't match. Assuming that RC is adding a space after the confirmation address this has me flummoxed. The only way to get the RC system to agree both emails are the same is to back erase the blank spaces - any ideas??? Actual buyers will abandon I fear.

Another interesting issue.
I have one Paypal account (Australia) accepts all currencies.
I have 4 RC accounts.

Australia works fine.
Just turned on the UK mobile payments. Paypal doesnt recognise the Paypal express button from the UK Roman Cart shopping basket. It asks me to configure it, when it already has been done. I checked again on my australia account.

So it seems that you need different Paypal accounts for each currency to use Paypal express on different RC carts.

Also for some funny reason, my buttons dropped out and I have little ? marks in their place. They must get picked up from the server.

Hi,
The link should be ok now.
The question marks you just saw would have been from us just fixing the previous issue. It should be ok now.

Please can you really spell out the paypal issue as i'm not sure I understand it.

Many thanks

My Paypal account is in Australia. It accepts all currencies. So if a UK shopper buys from us they pay GBP through our Paypal. Up until now I have used PAypal Standard. I turned on the Paypal Express for the Australian site and configured it and works fine.

I then turned on the mobile potion on my RC UK cart. Obviously nothing to configure as I only have one Paypal Account and that has already been done. However when I now go to my RC UK site and attempt a purchase it tells me that Paypal Express is not configured.

Of course Paypal Standard still works as it goes through an API.

Hope this explains it better.

By law I can not have a UK Paypal account as I am not a UK resident

No I never set express up as I already had PayPal standard through the API

Hi,
If you want to use PayPal Express then you will need to configure it. Click on the 'configure' link and follow the instructions there.
Is there some reason you are unable to do this?
Many thanks

OK, let me explain again.
I have one Paypal Account. It is in Australia and it accepts all currencies. It has been configured and I have tested this with my Australian RC website.

However when I try to order from my UK RC website I cannot do this as it tells me, RC is not configured.

I can only configure the one Paypal site once (and this has been done and works). So I cannot configure the Paypal website again....

In other words, Paypal wants a different account to link up to the UK Rc website. It will not accept my global account, as it currently does with the API

Hi,
In fact our PayPal express integration uses PayPal api's whereas standard does not.
You can configure a paypal account to use both standard and express checkout.
Click on the 'configure' icon for PayPal express on RomanCart to set it up.
Many Thanks

Things that need fixing asap:

1) The cart listing should be stacked:

   Subtotal
   Shipping
   Total

IMHO - logically - the Select Shipping option should be above the Subtotal area - but it isn't critical. The above however is critical as many buyers might think they are being charged for the postage twice.

2) The issue of Iphones storing the users email which is then dropped into email boxes using the space bar in IOS - with an extra white space added - causes mega problems with users being forced to confirm the email address which for some reason is not the same as the original dropped in address. I have dropped WorldPay as a payment option as PayPal doesn't ask for an email check. But this needs sorting as it will cause many a cart abandonment IMHO.

Hi,

The Order has been updated to reflect the original cart.

We are investigating the iOS issue.

Kind Regards

Oliver - many thanks - while I have got WorldPay to offer their bespoke smartphone system to Smartphone users - there is still a problem with the amount of time it takes to enter the order data in RC when interfaced to WorldPay. Paypal's system is much quicker even if you opt to use a card rather than your PayPal account funds.

I've been to the 'Change any Text' under tools but cant see how to change:

1. Your Shopping Basket - ie want to put store name in
2. Change the region - want it to Change your country

Support can you include these in the Change any Text

Here is another fix needed IMHO. We have RC's order tracking form implemented on our mobile FAQ page - this works ok - but the RC responding page is still formatted as per normal PC output. Something for the eventual bespoking facility?
