We would like the option - a tick box would do - for a promo code to be applied to the Order Total instead of the Order Subtotal.
THE PROBLEM: For some reason, promo codes are currently applied to the subtotal of an order, not the total. So, at the moment, if we issue customer with a £10 Promo Code, & they order £8 of goods using it, then they get charged £1.65 for postage. How do we justify that to them? Just to be clear, I'm not suggesting a proper gift-voucher system, just a minor tweak to the Promo Code options. ta very much Ben |

Hi There,
This is because promotion codes can only effect products. We are unable to change this. Kind Regards Edited by Support Oliver - 27 September 2010 at 3:54pm |

I think most people realise they have to pay postage regardless of what percentage comes off on an offer.

No raineshoe, you misunderstand. Please read my post. It's not an offer. There's no percentage. Its a voucher for £10 worth of goods.
Support Oliver, Your 'we are unable to change this' without explanation is very final, I thought this was forum for requesting changes to RC. I know you cant change it, I've asked before, that's WHY I'm making a feature request. :-) I've been with RC practically from the start. Obviously as it has grown then you get more and more silly requests, but we are one of your larger shops in terms of volume, I am an experienced RC user and it is frustrating being made to jump through endless hoops to make a feature request, only to have it dismissed out of hand. Are you sure this would be such a big thing to change? I mean, obviously it has to apply to either sub total or total, so I don't see why it is "impossible"? It's not like I'm asking for a huge relational database to track residual values of unused vouchers! Just a simple voucher that actually applies to the whole order. This is really normal in the real world of retail. Think of when you get a book token, or a WHSmiths voucher, or an Amazon voucher. >>>Having to pay £1.65 delivery when you buy £8 of goods with a £10 voucher is just stupid. OK, lets put it another way. I can see RC dont want Promo Codes used like this. Lets call it something else: Could you please log a feature request for a simple Voucher of some sort, no residual value tracking required, that actually applies to the Total for the order, like every other voucher you get in the world. thanks, Ben |

How would the voucher work when the customer chooses courier delivery? As you said yourself in your last post, "Its a voucher for £10 worth of goods."
I think if you guide your customer when giving them a voucher for up to £10 worth of goods, excluding delivery, they will know what they are getting, and no surprises for anybody. Just my tuppence worth. |

We don't offer courier delivery, but it doesn't matter. I think you're making this more complicated than necessary:
They've got ten quid to spend in our shop. If their basket total, including whatever shipping they chose, is less than 10 quid, they should be able to use the voucher for it. If their basket total, including whatever shipping they chose, is more than 10 quid, they will have to pay the extra by card, payapal etc, just as always. |

I'm not being odd about this. If you look at EKM powershop cart, their voucher/coupon setting works exactly as I describe - the WHOLE order including shipping.
Try to put yourself in the position of the customer - say you just got for your birthday a card with a £10 voucher for our shop in it: You go online, add £8 of seeds to the cart, see that shipping is £1.65, taking the total to 9.65, well within your voucher, so you go to checkout, put in the single-use £10 voucher code, and it asks you for £1.65 from your credit card for the shipping. WTF??? |

I can see your point, especially if you do not have different delivery options and costs.

I see what you are saying, but if I had a voucher to spend I wouldn't expect it to pay for shipping, just for goods so the fact I had to pay £1.65 for shipping wouldn't bother me. I think you should do as genealogy guy says and put excludes shipping on it.
If you go with what you are suggesting you are not giving them a voucher for £10.00 of goods ie if they buy £8.00 and have £1.65 shipping you are funding their postage costs and they have only bought £8.00 of stuff. Surely its better they buy a full £10.00 which is yours and they pay their own shipping. The voucher as you say is for "goods" not "shipping". Edited by raineshoe - 29 September 2010 at 7:47pm |
