VAT and UK

I've just found because I use regions for the UK because some items we have cannot be shipped to say to Jersey etc but can be shipped to the rest of the UK. However, I found someone managed to put in a VAT number at checkout and be exempt from VAT despite being in Scotland becuase the default is England. Can this not be altered somehow so that if in the UK they can't avoid VAT ie that the United Kingdom option becuase the default for VAT as I've now got to try and get them to pay the extra!

In that case why are Jersey and Guernsey listed as regions under United Kingdom?

We need to use regions as we have stuff that cannot be shipped to anything off shore such as Northern Ireland, Isle of Wight, Isle of Man and Scottish Highlands including the Channel Islands. If I get rid of regions I cannot prevent shipping to these out lying areas.   Unfortuantely, it doesn't help when someone then enters their VAT number and it zeros the VAT when regions are used.

It seems that saying "don't use regions" is an easy way out to not have to re-write this part of the program!!!

Having said all that - we will look into this as it should be using country not region to determine whether to allow euro vat reduction.

This is slightly complex as with the UK, England is of course a country, however for the purposes of e-commerce the country is required to be UK.

Maybe I have added (long time ago since I looked at this list and can't remember) but looking back in the list Jersey is there but not the other islands such as Herm and Sark which although small we can deliver through Royal Mail to, but again it would be certain items that would need to be excluded.
